Develop Navigation Model
How will users use the site? How will they get from one place to another? How do you prevent them from getting lost? Defining the navigation system for the site solves these problems. This is why we need to develop a navigation model.
Go back to your Content Labels. These are often a great start for global navigation.
If possible, try to keep global navs to 5 or 7 items.
Sometimes, multiple navigation systems are needed; Global, Current Level, Customer Service, etc.
Try to keep your logo near the global navigation for better branding
It is not a bad idea to develop a “Nav” Site. This would contain blank content pages with only the navigation systems in place. You can use simple text links for now. This allows you to check site flow and to compare it to your scenarios.
Another tip is to study other sites and how they solved navigation nightmares.
